Overtaken by events upon publication, J. Edward Kellough’s introduction to affirmative action law and policy will soon require a second edition.  By spring 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court is due to decide Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District, -(05-908, 2006), and Meredith v. Jefferson County Board of Education, (05-915, 2006), questioning the constitutionality of using race as a factor in student assignment to public schools.  Until next spring, then, we are left to wonder whether the newly configured Court will use this opportunity to reshape the place of race in K-12 public education or even to make a broader pronouncement about the legality of racial preferences in the public sector.  The surprise decision to accept the cases for review seems to indicate some desire by the justices to be heard again on the issue, last tackled–in the public higher education sphere–recently in Grutter v. Bollinger, (539 U.S.... (preview truncated at 150 words.)
