Critical to the success of every classroom is a system of management that facilitates the learning process.  The Key Elements of Classroom Management: Managing Time and Space, Student Behavior, and Instructional Strategies, by Joyce McLeod, Jan Fisher, and Ginny Hoover, offers a proactive approach to helping educators make the crucial decisions needed to set up rules and procedures, organize learning conditions, and develop relationships that are the cornerstone to student achievement.  Organized into three distinct sections with each one written by a different author, this book could be used as either a reference guide or as a professional development resource.     The section on managing time and classroom space introduces a variety of issues such as desk placement, visual displays, daily administrative tasks, and emergency and disaster drills.  While each of these topics is overviewed, none of them is discussed in-depth.  For example, while two pages are devoted to the topic of parent teacher conferences, absent are critical issues such as how to deal with reluctant parents or how to...
