For this reason Edelfelt's volume Inservice Education: Criteria for and Examples of Local Programs is a most welcome arrival on the educational scene. An expansion of an earlier and briefer publication, this book presents twenty-nine criteria pertinent to design of in-service programs and concise overviews of nine in-service projects, each of which exemplifies some of the criteria. The criteria were derived through interactions in two Teacher Corps-sponsored workshops and solicitation of critical comments on drafts of the criteria from educators in various areas of the country.
