Stanley Aronowitz wants you to have his job.  His job, of course, is the last good job in America.  Embedded within this desire, and this job description, is the crux of Aronowitz’s seventeenth, and newest, book, The Last Good Job in America: Work and Education in the New Global Technoculture.   Aronowitz is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Urban Education at CUNY and The Last Good Job in America is a compilation of his recent essays organized into five thematic sections: the role of higher education; the relationship between democracy and education; notions of identity, ethnicity, and democracy; globalization, capitalization and the State; and the role of unions in a “globalized technoculture.”  It should be noted that this organizational format, given the lack of an introduction, suffers from a lack of cohesion and thus forces the beginning reader to traverse, without much guidance, a wide swath of intellectual landscape.   Aronowitz’s perspective is grounded in the neo-Marxist Frankfurt School theorists (e.g. Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, and more recently, Jürgen...
