The Present Teaching of Mathematics in Germany: Chapter IV. The Secondary Schools of the Hanseatic States

The report on mathematical instruction in the Gymnasien and Realschulen in the Hanseatic states, Mecklenburg and Oldenburg,1 was prepared from the results of investigations carried on by sending questionnaires to the various educational centers. The data gathered in this manner gave information concerning the curriculum, the methods of presentation of mathematical material, and the topics emphasized in the teaching of the various subjects. Although the opinions received from the various instructors in mathematics disagreed in a few details, they showed certain general tendencies, which are embodied in this report.
