- Alan Bullock
St. Catherine's College, Oxford, England Lord Bullock was, from 1960-1980, Master of St. Catherine's College, Oxford University. He is editor of the Oxford History of Modern Europe series and author of Hitler, A Study in Tyranny. He was Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, 1969-1973, and chairman of the Trustees of the Tate Gallery, 1963-1970. He is also chairman of the National Council for Training and Supply of Teachers, and chairman of the Schools Council. A fellow of the British Academy, he was chairman of both the government Committee on Literacy and the government Committee on Industrial Democracy. He was knighted in 1972 and became a life peer in 1976
