    DAVID HOLBROOK is a Fellow of Downing College, Cambridge, and Director of English Studies there. He has taught English in adult education, in schools and at the university. He has written eight books on the teaching of English, including English for Maturity, English for the Rejected, and English for Meaning. He has also published his Selected Poems (1980) and two novels, Flesh Wounds and A Play of Passion. He has also published a number of studies in a series entitled The Psychology of Culture: including books on Dylan Thomas, Sylvia Plath and Gustav Mahler, and Lost Bearings in English Poetry.
