Strayer - 1925The superintendent of schools has the largest responsibility placed upon any governmental officer in our modern society. In American cities he is responsible for the expenditure of funds which commonly amount to from 30 to 40 per cent of the tax revenues. In the United States as a whole these administrative officers are responsible in a single year for the expenditure of one and a half billions of dollars for current expenses and for between $200,000,000 and $300,000,000 expended for new buildings and equipment.
