New Directions in Intercollegiate Athletics

Athletics must exist in institutions of higher learning in order to contribute to the goals of education and to the improvement of the social order. If the program cannot be justified as an integral phase of the educational curriculum, then it is exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to explain why it belongs in the college at all.
