A detachment of one hundred and four men of the Naval Hospital Corps under the general control of the commanding officer of the Brooklyn Naval Hospital was assigned to the College for this special training. The course prescribed by the commanding officer included the following subjects: anatomy and physiology, hygiene, bacteriology, chemistry, nursing, massage, first-aid and naval surgery, cookery and dietetics, and clerical duties. The instruction was provided by the Teachers College staff supplemented by medical and surgical men from the outside.
