The task of the curriculum worker is difficult, but offers excitement and intellectual challenge to those concerned with understanding and influencing the process of curriculum change and improvement. The curriculum worker must be an educational leader, attuned to intellectual, social, and educational developments in the broader social scene and to the problems and clamor of the participants on the local educational scene. The clarity of his educational vision must equal, and perhaps today surpass, the power of his social and psychological insights; for he must be rooted in the present but with a firm view of the future and, hence, a keen sense of change. Knowledge of the forces which impede or facilitate change must be combined with the courage to control them rather than be controlled by them, and with the patience and trust to work with those who differ in vision or insight.
