University of North Carolina, Wilmington E-mail Author ANDREW J. RYDER is an assistant professor of higher education at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Prior to earning his PhD in higher education from Iowa State University, he worked for 12 years in academic advising and residence life. He is active in several professional associations, including ACPA-College Student Educators International, which has recognized him as an Emerging Scholar, and NASPA-Association for Higher Education Administrators, where is a member of the Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Knowledge Community. Andy's published scholarship addresses student affairs assessment, campus climates, and professional practice in student affairs.
