- Janice Bloom
CUNY Graduate Center JANICE BLOOM is the co-director of College Access: Research & Action, an organization she co-founded in 2011 to support the college access work of schools, community-based organizations, and universities through educational reform and youth leadership. She taught middle and high school social studies in NYC public schools for seven years before earning a Ph.D. in Urban Education from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research has focused on access to higher education, social class, and urban schooling. Her most recent publication was “Willie Rivera Thoughts: Critical Small Schools and the Transition to Higher Education in the volume Critical Small Schools: Beyond Privatization in New York City Urban Educational Reform (2012).
- Mardi Tuminaro
Institute for Student Achievement E-mail Author MARDI TUMINARO recently retired from her work as a Science Coach for the Institute for Student Achievement, where she was helping science teachers develop and deliver curricula, which would engage students in the actual process of doing science. This work was a natural extension of her work as a teacher at Central Park East Secondary School, West Side High School, and Brandeis High School.
- Marian Mogulescu
Teachers College E-mail Author MARIAN MOGULESCU is currently a coach with the Center for Professional Education of Teachers, a program at Teachers College. Prior to retiring from the New York City Public School System, she worked in both traditional and alternative schools. In addition to enjoying the classroom and interactions with students, she worked to begin three new high schools, Central Park East Secondary School, East Side Community High School and Vanguard High School, where she was also Co-Director. She has worked with many programs as well as the National Coalition of Essential Schools and the New York Performance Standards Consortium.
- Pat Walter
Teachers College E-mail Author PAT WALTER retired from Central Park East Secondary School where she taught from its opening year. After retiring, through a Bank Street College program, she consulted for Schools Attuned in 14 alternative schools. She is currently consulting at Fanny Lou Hamer Freedom High School. Pat began teaching in large public high schools: Fort Hamilton, Haaren, and George Washington. She has an M.A. from Teachers College and Bank Street College.
