The Paideia Proposal and American Education

The recent publication of The Paideia Proposa by Mortimer Adler and several colleagues has stirred controversy, as might be expected. Unfortunately, the controversy is less than instructive. We must go beyond it in order to get down to the business of improving American precollegiate education.
