Preface (School and Nonschool Settings)

by Mario D. Fantini & Robert L. Sinclair 1985

The purpose of this Yearbook is to reexamine school and non-school education, and to suggest directions for clearing the present confusion about the educational responsibility of various institutions. Part One provides a base for understanding the importance of moving responsibility for education beyond the formal school setting. Part Two considers the present and future contributions of various educating institutions to the learning of children and youth and makes clear the potential for learning inherent in key institutions in the community. Part Three explores issues central to making decisions for linking school and non-school settings in more effective ways and considers the realities to be faced when building a closer association between schools and other educational environments.
