Service Learning in the Classroom: Practical Issues

Beyond the school organization itself, questions inevitably arose concerning parent approval and the possibility that parents would feel that field work would detract from students' learning. And what about community agencies? Would they want to be bothered with volunteers, especially those in late elementary or middle school grades? These questions and reservations were dealt with, often with far more ease than might have been expected. This school and others have successfully implemented service learning. In some cases, programs have been in operation for a great many years.
