Youth Participation: Integrating Youth into Communities

In this chapter I describe a particular form of service learning— Youth Participation—that was developed by the National Commission on Resources for Youth, Inc. (NCRY), which operated from 1967 to 1986 as a not-for-profit agency based in New York City.

    PETER KLEINBARD was on the staff of the National Commission on Resources for Youth from 1971 to 1981. In 1984, he established the Young Adult Learning Academy in New York City, a school devoted to school dropouts. Currently, he is a Program Officer at the DeWitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund in New York City.
