The Role of Standards in Teaching and Teacher Education by Robert J. Yinger - 1999The purpose of this chapter is to foster a discussion on the role of
standards in teacher education, licensure, and certification as we enter
the twenty-first century. Robert Roth characterized the 1990s as the
“age of standards” and generated a comprehensive history and analysis
of research and policy in this area. Likewise, others have published
recent reviews of issues and challenges as standards are developed and
applied. The report of the National Commission on Teaching and
America’s Future based many of its recommendations for the improvement
of teaching and learning on the use of professional standards as
vehicles for improvement in teacher education, teacher licensure, and
advanced teacher certification. To view the full-text for this article you must be signed-in with the appropriate membership. Please review your options below: This article originally appeared as NSSE Yearbook Vol 98, No. 1. |
