    THOMAS M. MCCANN is an associate professor of English at Northern Illinois University, where he teaches classes in the teacher certification program. His most recent publication is Transforming Talk into Text: Argument Writing, Inquiry, and Discussion (Teachers College Press, 2014). He continues to research classroom discourse as it impacts students' development as writers. He is also replicating a portion of his 2005 study (Supporting Beginning English Teachers, NCTE) about the concerns of beginning English teachers.
