The Penn State and Syracuse Scandals: Are We Serious about a Solution? by Perry A. Zirkel — January 22, 2012This commentary suggests a systemic solution to the pernicious problem of big-time college basketball and football. More specifically, it proposes to use the model of minor league baseball, but adjusting it to have an arms-length contractual affiliation with the respective institutions of higher education. The athletes would have the option of attending colleges, which would have teams that maintain their status as students first, or signing with these pro teams, with pay and opportunities for the NBA and NFL structured directly as in minor league baseball.
