NELLY P. STROMQUIST is professor in international development education at the University of Maryland. She specializes in issues related to comparative education, which examines from a critical sociology perspective. Her research interests focus on the dynamics among educational policies and practices, gender relations, equity, and social change, particularly in Latin America. She is the author of numerous articles and several books. Most recently, she edited The Professoriate in the Age of Globalization (2007), and wrote Feminist Organizations and Social Transformation in Latin America (2006) and Education in a Globalized World. The Connectivity of Economic Power, Technology, and Knowledge (2002).
