Neal Bowers has added a new chapter to this updated version of Words for the Taking: The Hunt for a Plagiarist, first published in 1997. But neither this revision nor the original book offers much that might help us address the increasing level of plagiarism that seems to be plaguing our secondary schools and colleges and universities today - my primary disappointment with this book. As someone who has spent almost two decades thinking about issues of student cheating and plagiarism, I had hoped Words for the Taking might offer some new insights on this difficult topic that I could share with the many students and faculty I have the opportunity to speak to each year. But this is clearly not what Mr. Bowers had in mind. Instead, he has written what is primarily a narrative of his personal experience after discovering that one of his poems, and ultimately several... (preview truncated at 150 words.)
