Teaching and Learning Outside the Box: Inspiring Imagination Across the Curriculum is a thought provoking book that will help teachers, researchers, and parents, better understand the role of imagination in education. Readers will be challenged to re-conceive the current common sense beliefs about school, curriculum, and (good) teaching through the various voices that are put together by the editors, Kieran Egan, Maureen Stout and Keiichi Takaya. The underlying philosophy of education in this volume is Egan’s well established theory on the role of imagination in education. He draws on this theoretical framework throughout the book by providing an initial overview of the concept of imagination, its history and diverse meanings, and its central—and often neglected—value for education. It is this vision that encompasses and connects the rich contributions of the different authors.     MARIA DO CEU ROLDAO is a Potuguese curriculum professor and researcher at the School of Education of Santarém. She worked for 18 years with elementary school children as a teacher and teacher trainer. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Simon Fraser University (Canada) in 1990 and her aggregation in 2003 from the University of Aveiro, in Education and Curriculum.
