Historians of education, but also any readers interested in rethinking teacher preparation in the United States, are in the debt of Peter Lang Publishers and Judith Lanier for making available in one place the three important reports that were issued by the Holmes Group/Holmes Partnership between 1986 and 1995.     New York University
    JAMES W. FRASER is a professor at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. In 1987 he was appointed as Special Assistant to the Chancellor of Higher Education in Massachusetts with a mandate to implement the Holmes Report’s recommendations in that state. Subsequently he served as Dean of Education and Public Policy at Lesley University and then as founding Dean of the School of Education at Northeastern University in Boston prior to joining the faculty at New York University. His most recent book, Preparing America’s Teachers: A History (New York: Teachers College Press, 2007), is a study of the history of teacher preparation in the United States from the time of the American Revolution to the present.
