This is not a how-to-meet-the-principal-standards kind of book. Rather, it addresses the realities of the principals job that are not often taught in principal preparation courses. This review examines the main concepts of the book and Heberts suggestions for dealing with the issues raised. It also points out some of the leadership lessons associated with each concept.
This book is both enjoyable and valuable to read: enjoyable because it validates the role of principals, and valuable because it makes specific suggestions about how to handle situations common to the principalship. After the introductory first chapter, Hebert begins each chapter with a clarifying episode to introduce the eight major concepts that make up the book.
