Kathleen Cushman creates a “user-friendly” book that assists students in understanding themselves with respect to the college application process. Most books on college admissions focus on the application itself or present the reader with the point of view that college admissions officers have of perspective applicants. Kathleen Cushman invites students to undertake an insightful journey, which includes identifying their own interests and goals. Ultimately, this journey will help them become more comfortable with the college application process. Cushman divides the book into chapters which delineate the journey that the student should take. All components of the journey connect with one another, and the flow of topics establishes a map for individual growth. Following this map leads a student to the realization that she can attend college and that she should pursue her dreams.
