Evaluating School Violence Programs is a collection of essays designed to provide guidance and resource information about school violence prevention program evaluation to those who may not have strong backgrounds in research and evaluation.  Editor Erwin Flaxman introduces the collection with the correct observation that the myth of an epidemic of school violence needs to be dispelled even as we need to work more diligently to evaluate programs directed at preventing such violence.  Flaxman also correctly points out that the most potential for preventing school violence lies in programs that target, in addition to schools, the domains of home and community.   To lead into the collection, Flaxman makes several points about the funding of school violence prevention programs.  The chief point he makes is that funders need to be involved in creating a culture that will be supportive of the types of program research and evaluation described in the book’s essays.  The three essays that comprise the collection offer basic information about research and evaluation and specific information about...
