Philanthropy News Network

PNN (Philanthropy News Network) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Raleigh, North Carolina. PNN grew out of a weekly column on philanthropy and nonprofits published in The News and Observer, the daily newspaper in Raleigh, North Carolina. The column evolved into the Philanthropy Journal of North Carolina launched in September 1993 as a publication of The News and Observer Foundation with in-kind support from The News and Observer Publishing Company. In 1998, the Philanthropy Journal of North Carolina discontinued publication of its print journal and changed its name to Philanthropy News Network. The focus of the new organization was to serve the needs of nonprofits nationwide by providing free services to all segments of the nonprofit community. Those services included PNN Online, the daily Web service; PNN Alert, a biweekly email newsletter; and Nonprofits and Technology, a monthly newspaper. PNN also developed a national series of regional conferences where participants who work in or are in other ways associated with the nonprofit community could meet. Topics at the conferences covered the sectors' use of changing technology and the opportunities provided by the Internet. During the conference series, PNN was able to gather valuable information on the technology needs of nonprofits across the country.
