Participants Needed for a Delegation to Paris and Finland!
As a member of the education community, you understand the importance of preparing our students for an interconnected and increasingly competitive world – a world that now requires us to provide students with an international perspective as well as 21st century skills and knowledge. As President Obama said, "the country that out-educates us today, will out-compete us tomorrow.” According to one measure of student performance, the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), in reading, mathematics, and science, the United States is far from high performing. We must continue to learn more about what other countries are doing.
Please consider this invitation to join NCCS Delegation to Finland and France. As you know, Finland is one of the highest-performing countries on the PISA. This study tour will provide travelers who are committed to excellence in education an opportunity to look closely at the Finnish education system. With the leadership of EF (Education First), a long-established travel company, our group will travel to Finland and France for eight days from March 29 - April 5, 2014.
While Finland will be our primary focus, we will initially visit Paris, where our delegation will have access to PISA designers and administrators and the OECD commission (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). Paris will set the stage for us to visit the exemplar: Finland. We will visit Finnish schools, speak with officials in the Ministry of Education, and meet with university professors who prepare teachers. In addition, our delegation will engage in a variety of discussions designed to share our learning and deepen our understanding of how we can promote student achievement and improve teacher performance in our schools. Additionally, we hope to create a cohort experience of meeting and sharing before and after the trip. Ideally, our cohort will consist of a mix of school leaders and teachers.
The NCCS Delegation to Finland and France is an extraordinary opportunity for learning and cultural exchange. We encourage you to review the enclosed flyer to learn more about our proposed itinerary and contact Lauren Gallagher (EF, Education First) with any questions. We hope you will consider this invitation to join us!
The initial deposit is due October 31, 2013.
